Do You Know About The Kitchen Work Triangle?
Have you ever heard of the kitchen work triangle?
The Kitchen Work Triangle is a concept that’s been around since the 1940’s. It is the idea of creating an imaginary triangle within the kitchen with the points at the sink, Refrigerator and cooktop. This is used to determine layouts that are both efficient, functional and aesthetic.
A few rules of the work triangle:
No side of the triangle should cut through an island or peninsula by more than 12 inches.
The sum of the three sides of the triangle should be no less than 13 feet, but not exceed 26 feet.
Each leg of the triangle should measure between 4 and 9 feet.
Of course things have changed a bit since the 1940’s, so the work triangle doesn’t apply to all kitchens. However, this theory is still a good practice to use in many kitchens when laying out the design.
