6 Misconceptions of Interior Design

6 Misconceptions of Interior Design

No need to break the bank!

No need to break the bank!

1. It’s too expensive and time consuming

Only the rich or those lucky enough to get a spot on HGTV can hire an interior designer, right?  Wrong! As my folks used to say, when I was younger and played my “horrible” music … “the times are a changing.”

I’ll admit; hiring a traditional interior designer to meet with you face to face and go store to store with you to make all of your selections isn’t going to be pocket change.  There is a lot of time invested in that process. However, the times are a changing, the process of E-design has made a big impact on how Interior design is done.  It’s not only affordable and requires minimal time from you the client, but it also saves you from having to invite a stranger (me) into your home. (I promise I’m friendly, and if you have a dog, I may forget my reason for being in your home. Doggy = Ashley must pet)

E-design requires just a little “homework” from you (measurements, photos) and the rest is up to me. Depending on what you need there are several packages I offer to help design your space and start at $100. (Now through July 2020 you can get 15% off of your price- Just mention the code CHIBLOG)

2. I don’t know what I like, so the designer won’t have a direction to go

What do you think I’m here for? I understand that sometimes you just don’t have a style. Trust me, I get it.  My best friend likes everything. I could put a Skittle on a doily, frame it and tell her it’s bohemian and she would put it right next to her gothic black velvet chair. (Okay, I may be exaggerating a bit as she is an artist and knows when I’m throwing her bullshit.)  However, I was able to work with her to narrow down her style to make a cohesive guest room for her.  Just because you don’t know what you like or like too much doesn’t mean we can’t work together to figure out a style that will make a beautiful room that reflects you.

3. They just decorate homes

Do actors just act? No, a handful of them make stupid decisions in their personal lives and allow all of us normal folk to judge them as if we hadn’t made those same decisions before. There are a number of things Interior designers and decorators do to improve a space. I’m not just going to pick out a picture for you to hang and a rug to lay down and call it a design.  I can help with paint colors, textiles, furniture choices and décor. Do you have a hard time visualizing how your room should look or how you can improve your room? Cool, let me help. I can build you a floor plan to make sure your furniture fits, create a concept board and create a rendering of the room so you have a good idea of what it will look like even before you buy the paint color.

4. It’s their way or the highway

I mean, I know I’m always right (joking). The point of hiring an Interior decorator is for direction and support we offer. The goal is to make you happy and heard. I’m here to make sure the space reflects you all the while giving you my design expertise.

5. My Home isn’t “Fancy” enough for an Interior Designer

You mean you don’t have chandeliers dripping of real diamonds?  I guess you’re right, we can’t work together.  Again, I’m joking. You are exactly the client I want to work with! I want to make your life easier by helping design your space.  No matter the size, style or lack of lavish décor.

6. Their home must be perfect

Hahaha!  I’d love to say that it’s perfect. However, it’s not. I constantly find new projects to do around the house. I have walls and couches with dog footprints all over them. The cushions have been ripped open, sewn and ripped open again from a certain puppy. My house is what most would say is “lived in” and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Like the landscaper with the overgrown lawn, or the stylist with all the split ends… I’d rather focus on you and your space rather than mine.
